Norman Alderson
National Estates Manager

Norman Alderson leads the team responsible for the estates management of the National Grid Property portfolio with particular focus on maximising income and minimising costs whilst ensuring that health, safety, security and environmental standards are maintained at the highest level. A fellow of the RICS, he has over 25 years experience in property management, development and valuation. He joined British Gas Northern as Estates manager in 1989 having previously worked in local government, for English Industrial Estates and in private practice.

Stewart Macintyre
Head of Sales

Stewart Macintyre leads the team responsible for property development, property disposals and town planning activities within National Grid Property. The main focus is to maximise commercial opportunities within the non-operational property portfolio. Stewart is a Chartered Surveyor with 20 years experience gained in private practice, local authority and in property development.

Steve Wallace
Head of Environment

Steve Wallace is responsible for managing a team of professionals who deal with contaminated land issues across the portfolio. This includes liability assessment, risk management and delivery of the annual remediation programme. Steve graduated from Leeds University in 1986 with a PhD in Physical Chemistry. He joined the British Gas research function in 1989 and transferred to what was then British Gas Property in 1995. Steve is also Chair of NICOLE - a European contaminated land network with members from the industry, service provider and academic communities.

Phil Edwards
Major Sites Development Manager

Phil is responsible for adding and realising value from the major sites in National Grid Property's portfolio. These are generally significant in size and face a series of challenges that must be overcome if their potential high value is to be unlocked and released. The portfolio includes 75 acre sites in West and East London at Southall and Beckton together with sites in Bath, Bristol and Kent. Phil's role involves the management and direction of consultant teams to create a viable and deliverable masterplan for a site prior to the selection of an appropriate disposal strategy. Phil has been with the organisation for 10 years and is a qualified Chartered Surveyor and Chartered Management Accountant, and has experience both in property development and finance.

Rob Bissett
Financial Controller

Rob is Financial Controller for National Grid Property having qualified as a Chartered Accountant in South Africa. Rob has overall responsibility for reporting the divisions financial results to the Group.

Karen Walsh
Procurement Manager

Karen Walsh is responsible for the national procurement requirements for the business with an annual spend of approximately £100 m, including major building and remediation works and services. Karen has worked for National Grid Property for 7 years, in procurement as well as in the National Grid Property's external consultancy business National Grid Regeneration. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply.

Stephen Bentzien
General Counsel

Stephen Bentzien is a Solicitor with over 20 years experience in property and development. Working closely with other senior Managers he helps to formulate Company policy and procedures, ensuring these are developed and complied with. Stephen directs and manages a panel of external lawyers on all aspects of National Grid Property's transactions in order to add value to it's business activities.

Gail McLean
HR Manager

Gail McLean is responsible for Human Resources at National Grid Property. Gail has 22 years experience in the sector. Her role includes providing recruitment and selection services, training and development programmes, advising on reward and performance management systems and human resources strategies.
