The site at Manor Road, Richmond is approximately eight acres and located adjacent to a Homebase store. Outline planning permission was granted for a 5,017m2 foodstore at this ex-gasworks in July 1997 following a planning appeal.
The two gasholders and operational equipment were decommissioned in 1998 after a judicial review had delayed commencement on site. The remediation was completed in September 1999 and a Sainsbury's foodstore was opened the following year.
