A former gasworks managers' house and garden was gifted by National Grid Property to the Museum Trust which looks after Scotland's only Gasworks Museum in the small South Lanarkshire town of Biggar. Manned by local volunteer staff from the Biggar Museum Trust and attracting several thousand visitors each year, it operates as the last fully-preserved gasworks in Scotland, and stands virtually unchanged since 1973, when gas manufacturing at the works ceased with the arrival of North Sea gas.
