Projects

What we do

National Grid Property's primary goal is to tackle the historic legacy of gas manufacture on its surplus portfolio, so that derelict and contaminated sites can be reclaimed and returned to beneficial use.

Working with developers, local authorities, independent experts and regulators, the Construction team manage a multi-million pound programme to restore land to beneficial use. National Grid Property has spent over £290million on reclaiming over 1500 acres and the positive impact of the team's work is already evident the length and breadth of the UK. Once derelict and polluted sites from Inverness to Penzance have been cleaned up and regenerated to provide new homes, jobs, shops, leisure facilities and green space for the whole community.

National Grid Property uses a mixture of new and established technologies to design the most appropriate clean up strategy for individual sites. Safety is and will always be top priority. Whilst the company recognises that established methodologies have proven track records, it is constantly looking to provide the best environmental solutions.

To this end, National Grid Property is continually seeking to develop, validate and utilise new technologies to enable land, where appropriate, to be cleaned up in situ. Such technologies include bioremediation, soil washing and vapour extraction amongst others.

Fit-out works

National Grid Property undertakes fit out works on behalf of National Grid. For example, in 2000, National Grid Property oversaw the leasing and fitting out of 51 Homer Road, Solihull. The refurbishment works comprised remodelling the accommodation, upgrading the air conditioning, and installing new power supplies, lighting, data cabling, carpets and decorations. The project was completed on time and under budget.

National Grid Property carried out the fit out works for the new National Grid headquarters on the 4th floor of the building at 1-3 Strand.
